Oh damn it!! I really hated when my brain started to torment me with thoughts about my ex-girlfriend. Although it really pissed me off, I just could not stop thinking about her. No matter what I did, the memories kept coming on and on. I'm very sure that you feel identified with my previous situation and that you had to suffer through a lot of pain when you broke up with your girlfriend. I must tell you that what you went through or what you are currently going through (if that is your case) is pretty normal. Without getting too much scientific here, I will give you a brief explanation about what causes those mixed emotions. The human brain creates links between positive emotions and what causes it, in these case it is your ex-girlfriend. So when that person dissapears your brain enters in an withdrawal state where it wants those great feelings back but you are not giving them to it so you feel sick. The problem here is that it takes some time to recover because your brain have to get back to an initial state where that person didn't existed. For some people it's easier to move on while others take years to forget about his former partner. Nevertheless, the worst thing that you can do is try to avoid those awful feelings. You must go through the withdrawal process, you just can't avoid it because if you don't take the time to heal, those feelings will hit you back again sooner or later. The key to a successful recovery is to keep going with your life although inside you feel like shit.
